The Story of one Nantucket Photographer

Bill Hoenk began his career on Nantucket in 2003, when he visited for the first time as a summer worker at the famed restaurant, The Chanticleer, waiting tables. It was during this time that he fell in love with the natural beauty of the island. After that summer, he pursued a photography degree at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh before returning to Nantucket in 2007 to work again, this time as Maitre d’ of the Chanticleer, to pay off his massive student loan debts… and he never left.

Now an almost 15 year 'Washashore', Bill is no longer in the restaurant industry; he is a full-time Freelance Photographer, specializing in Food and Beverage, Event, Real Estate Photography, Portraiture, and Documentary work, but his passion lies most deeply with his connection to Nature, Landscape and Astro Photography.

Bill’s award winning photography has seen the pages of many local, national and international publications including a photo on the cover of a special edition of Time Magazine, and has been featured on several television networks including CBS, ESPN, The Weather Channel, HBO, and in the blockbuster movie 'Patriot's Day'.

Bill is also a photojournalist, working with the team at ACK 97.7-FM, Daybreak Nantucket, and Nantucket About Town to bring subscribers weekly content illustrating Nantucket life, including coverage of local news, arts and cultural events.

Locally, Bill is an artist member of the Artist's Association of Nantucket, the Nantucket Photographers Network, and the Sustainable Nantucket Farmer's and Artisans Market, where you can find him every Saturday throughout the summer selling his matted and framed prints.
